The 2007 Freestyle is Ford's answer to what happens when you combine the best characteristics of an SUV, station wagon, and minivan. You can get into a Freestyle SEL with front wheel drive for only $25,920. Adding all-wheel-drive bumps the price up to $27,770. Both of these offer plenty of standard equipment. The comfortable driver's front bucket offers power controls and includes lumbar and height adjustment. The sound coming from the standard four-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system is quite good. We enjoyed the quality leather wrapped around the steering wheel and shift knob. Not only does the wheel tilt to allow you to dial in your comfort, but the auxiliary controls on the wheel help you to keep your hands where they can enjoy the Freestyle's excellent ride and fine handling abilities. Power comes from a 3.0L V6 engine that sends 207 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque through a continuously variable automatic transmission to either the front or all four wheels, depending on your model choice. We found the Ford version of CVT to be especially good in matching engine rpms to driving situations. You can also step up to the $29,205 Freestyle Limited FWD or $31,055 Freestyle Limited AWD. The advantages here include an upgraded stereo with nine speakers and a six-CD changer. Memory settings for the driver's heated seat and leather seating in all three rows add to the luxury. The second row floor console is unique to the Limited trim, and may be the Freestyle's best executed good idea. The Limited also adds fog lights and automatic headlights.
