2027 Honda Passport Trims Explained for Snohomish County Drivers: RT-L, TrailSport and Elite

2027 Honda Passport Trims Explained for Snohomish County Drivers: RT-L, TrailSport and Elite

Pricing for the 2027 Honda Passport starts at $45,195 for the RT-L, $49,995 for the TrailSport and $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite. Two factory versions sit between them: the RT-L Towing (+$700 for a Class III hitch) and Blackout (+$1,500 on either TrailSport). Every version has the same 280-hp V6, 10-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb towing rating and full Honda Sensing. What $4,800 more buys on the TrailSport is trail hardware; what another $3,700 buys on the Elite is cabin comfort.

In Snohomish County, the Passport trim question is about rain, passes and forest roads. Every trim has all-wheel drive and Snow mode for Stevens Pass. The TrailSport adds the clearance and tires for forest roads off US-2.

Which trim is the best value?
For most Snohomish County buyers, the TrailSport. Its $4,800 premium over the RT-L includes a hitch (a $700 option on the RT-L), all-terrain tires, skid plates, TrailWatch, a moonroof and a heated wheel.
Is AWD standard?
Yes. Every 2027 Passport has i-VTM4 torque-vectoring all-wheel drive with Trail Torque Logic and seven drive modes.
Best Passport for Snohomish County?
On pavement, including US-2 over Stevens Pass, the RT-L does everything you need. For forest roads off US-2, step up to the TrailSport, and add the Elite for ventilated seats and Bose audio.
Which trims have real leather?
The RT-L and the TrailSport Elite. The TrailSport's seats are HondaTex synthetic leather with cloth.
Is Blackout worth $1,500?
Only for the look: black 18-inch wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Equipment doesn't change.
What changed for 2027?
TrailSport trims gained ride height (9.6 in. clearance), amber hood lights and a new front, plus TrailWatch and a heated wheel on the TrailSport.

Trade-offs

What Changes for the Worse as You Step Up

Most dealers only tell you what you gain. Here's what you lose.

RT-L to TrailSport

  • Real leather. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth; the RT-L has leather-trimmed seats.
  • Interior color choice. The RT-L offers black or gray; the TrailSport is black only.
  • Fuel economy: 19/25/21 mpg becomes 18/22/20, a 3-mpg drop on the highway.
  • Headroom: front drops from 40.5 to 39.1 in. and rear from 40.7 to 39.6 in., and passenger volume from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
  • Departure angle: 27.1° on the RT-L versus 25.3° on the TrailSport, which trades some departure angle for its 25.4° approach angle and 9.6 in. of clearance.
  • Low-profile height: the TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall versus 73.1 in., worth checking if you add a roof box.
  • Tire speed rating: the all-terrains are T-rated (113T) versus the RT-L's H-rated all-seasons (110H).
  • Curb weight rises 198 lbs, from 4,478 to 4,676.

TrailSport to TrailSport Elite

  • Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
  • Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
  • 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.

Standard to Blackout

  • The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
  • $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.

The Five Passport Matchups Shoppers Ask About

RT-L vs. RT-L Towing

RT-L $45,195 vs. RT-L Towing $45,895

The $700 difference is the factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel. Every Passport is rated for 5,000 lbs, but towing takes hitch equipment, and the Towing version arrives with it. If towing to Lake Stevens is part of your summer, it's the simpler route.

RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport

RT-L Towing $45,895 vs. TrailSport $49,995

$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.

TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport $49,995 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

Same trail hardware, $3,700 apart. The Elite's case is comfort: ventilated fronts, heated rears, perforated leather, Bose, a hands-free liftgate and automatic wipers.

TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite

TrailSport Blackout $51,495 vs. TrailSport Elite $53,695

$2,200 separates them, and they solve different wants. Blackout is the look; Elite is the comfort. If you want both, the Elite Blackout combines them.

TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout

TrailSport Elite $53,695 vs. TrailSport Elite Blackout $55,195

$1,500 buys black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. Everything else is identical.

2027 vs. 2026

What's New on the 2027 Passport

A taller TrailSport

TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.

A new TrailSport face

Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.

Elite features move down

The TrailSport now includes TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, both previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite.

Blackout gets darker

The Blackout package adds black front and rear fascias to its black wheels and badges.

New paint

Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl across the lineup.

Higher prices

MSRP is up $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.

Standard on all

Standard on Every 2027 Passport

Even the $45,195 RT-L gets the full powertrain, the complete Honda Sensing suite and the same tech package as the TrailSport Elite.

Drivetrain

  • 280-hp direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 with 258 lb-ft

  • Seven modes, including Snow, Tow, Trail and Sand

Before you buy

What to Check on a Edmonds Passport Test Drive

A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.

  1. Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
  2. If you can, take both trims toward US-2 over Stevens Pass. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
  3. Merge onto I-5 or Highway 99 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
  4. Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
  5. Ride in the back of both trims. The TrailSport's moonroof trims rear headroom from 40.7 to 39.6 in.
  6. Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
  7. Bring your trailer plug type. The TrailSport's hitch uses a 7-pin connector.
  8. Ask us to demo TrailWatch and the Multi-View Camera System in the lot. It's most useful nosing into a tight trailhead or a steep driveway.
  9. On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.

2027 Honda Passport Trim FAQs

What are the 2027 Honda Passport trim levels?

The 2027 Honda Passport comes in three trims: RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite. There are also two factory versions: the RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch to the RT-L, and a Blackout package for the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite.

How much does the 2027 Honda Passport cost?

MSRP is $45,195 for the RT-L, $45,895 for the RT-L Towing, $49,995 for the TrailSport, $51,495 for the TrailSport Blackout, $53,695 for the TrailSport Elite and $55,195 for the TrailSport Elite Blackout. Add the $1,595 destination charge and $455 for premium paint colors.

What is the difference between the Passport RT-L and TrailSport?

The TrailSport adds off-road hardware: an off-road-tuned suspension with 9.6 in. of ground clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch cameras and a factory hitch. It also adds a panoramic moonroof, heated steering wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L keeps leather-trimmed seats, a gray interior option and better fuel economy. The TrailSport costs $4,800 more.

What's the difference between the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite?

Comfort. The Elite adds perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and sunshades for $3,700 more. Off-road equipment is the same.

What is the 2027 Passport RT-L Towing?

It's the RT-L with a factory Class III trailer hitch with harness and hitch panel, for $700 more. Every other feature matches the RT-L.

Which 2027 Passport trim is best for Snohomish County?

For paved drives like US-2 over Stevens Pass, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For forest roads off US-2, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.

What is the Passport Blackout package?

Offered on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite for $1,500, it adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes. It doesn't change equipment or capability.

Is the 2027 Passport AWD or 4WD?

All-wheel drive. Every trim uses Honda's i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD with Trail Torque Logic; there's no two-wheel-drive version.

How much can the 2027 Honda Passport tow?

Every 2027 Passport is rated to tow up to 5,000 lbs when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite come with a factory Class III hitch. Premium fuel is recommended when towing more than 3,500 lbs.

What is HondaTex?

It's the durable synthetic leather Honda uses, with cloth, on the Passport TrailSport's seats. The RT-L uses leather-trimmed seats and the TrailSport Elite uses perforated leather.

Does the 2027 Honda Passport have a third row?

No. The Passport is a two-row SUV that seats five. For a third row, look at the Honda Pilot.

What is the 2027 Passport's ground clearance?

The RT-L has 8.3 inches of ground clearance. The TrailSport and TrailSport Elite have 9.6 inches thanks to their reengineered 2027 suspension.

What gas mileage does the 2027 Passport get?

The RT-L is EPA-rated at 19 city, 25 highway and 21 combined mpg. TrailSport trims are rated at 18 city, 22 highway and 20 combined. All run on regular unleaded fuel and have an 18.5-gallon tank.

Only the TrailSport Elite, including the Elite Blackout. It also adds heated outboard rear seats.

Does the 2027 Passport have Google built-in?

Yes, on every trim, along with Alexa Built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger.
